TECHNICAL TRAINING

2022 - Present

Johns Hopkins University

Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology Graduate Research Fellow

  • Utilized human brain-brain barrier-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) to explore the effects of cigarette smoke on barrier integrity

  • Conducted rigorous EV-isolation techniques (e.g., differential centrifugation, size exclusion chromatography) to achieve robust characterization results using nanoparticle tracking analysis, nanoparticle flow cytometry, and western blot

2018 - 2022

Johns Hopkins University

Institute of NanoBioTechnology Graduate Research Fellow

  • Primary focus: Spearheaded the exploration of interactions between stem cell-derived vascular endothelial cells and pericytes mediated by EVs under hypoxia, including developing 2.5-dimensional models of pericyte migration towards vascular networks

  • Secondary focus: Examined how hypoxia affects SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binding to endothelial ACE2 receptors

2017 - 2018

University of New Mexico

Product Developer

  • Supervised by Dr. Christina Salas from the University of New Mexico's Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation

  • Collaborated with the Hanger Prosthetics Clinic to design post-operative prosthetics modifiable for wound and edema care

  • Awarded $50,000 to patent and construct prosthetics in a joint effort with the New Mexico Veteran Affairs Hospital

2015 - 2018

University of New Mexico

Ronald E. McNair Research Scholar

  • Developed biodegradable iron-oxide nanoparticles adaptable to a commercial mouthwash to prevent periodontal disease

  • Created time- and dose-dependent protocols to analyze nanoparticles as bactericides and magnetic-induced biofilm invaders

2013 - 2015

University of New Mexico

Center for High Technology Materials Research Intern

  • Synthesized metallic nanoparticles to gauge pain intensity via matrix metalloproteinase regulation in cerebral spinal fluids
